What Happens When Jesus Comes to Town?

A Picture of Revival and Awakening

Jesus changes things. When He manifests His presence—in a life, a church, a community—things are never the same.Christ came to the area of the Gerasenes on the east side of the Sea of Galilee and encountered a man who was filled with demons. Most of us would have kept our distance. But not Christ. When Jesus comes to town ...Satan Gets Scared The demons shouted out from the man, “What business do we have with each other, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God, do not torment me!” (Mark 5:7 NASB).Satan and his demons are no match for Jesus Christ, and we need to remember that and not be intimidated by their schemes. Jesus wants to deliver those who are in bondage to the Evil One.Captives Get Saved! The people found this completely demon-possessed man “sitting down, clothed and in his right mind” (v. 15). No one could have done this except Jesus. And no one can “set the captives free” now except Jesus! But when He comes, anything can happen to any life in bondage. The Comfortable Get FrightenedThe people “became frightened.” Instead of rejoicing, they “began to implore [Jesus] to leave their region” (vv. 15-17).Why? It challenged their status quo, and they didn’t like it. They had their pigs and their town crazy man, and everything was just fine. They cared more about their possessions than people. They liked their space just like it was. When Jesus shows up, not everyone likes it, and they will try to push Jesus out of “their region.”Christ Is Exalted! The end result was a fully liberated and changed man who went home and reported “what great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed” (vv. 19-20). Christ was seen for the great Redeemer that He is.Lord Jesus, come like that in our “region.” Manifest Yourself. Regardless of the opposition of others, or how it may upset the usual, set the captives free and show the world who You are so that we will all be amazed and You will be glorified. And may we all report the rest of our lives the great things You have done!
